Evernote is a system that I could see myself relying on further down the road when my work becomes extensive and it’s harder to stay organized with a mere planner and google drive account. As of right now I put all my faith into google drive and google calendar. These applications help me organize work cited pages and my actually work in one place, while I can plan what I am supposed to do later in the week with calendar. While I understand this system of organization can become muddled and hard to search and find materials as the library of works I collect increases, but for right now, it does the job I need it to do. Of course I understand the significant advantages of evernote with the web clipper and ability to view many articles quickly and effectively, along with the ease of note taking. The problem I find with evernote is actually getting started. Like most things in life, the hardest part of evernote is abandoning my past systems in favor of this new one. One way to increase participation in evernote would be to have groups with a shared evernote. This way the burden does not fall completely on the individual. I think I would have benefited greatly from using evernote in my economics course. We had many projects in which research was required and we had a plethora of short papers in which we had to find an article and describe its relation to a certain concept of economics. Evernote would help my collect, organize and rediscover these articles. Once a paper is done I usually leave it in my google drive but almost never revisit it. With evernote, I would be more inclined to revisit old materials in order to find sources that fit the task I am handed. Overall I think evernote is a fascinating source, and I do hope to find success with it later on in my life, but as of right now and this past semester, it is a big commitment and one I am not ready to make. The amount of work that is needed to be put into it before it becomes a useful tool, in my opinion, is more than I had time for this semester.
